Abstract
A system and apparatus for plasma blasting comprises a borehole, with a novel blast probe, the probe comprising a high voltage electrode and a ground casing tube with a ground and/or electrode deflector. The ground and/or electrode deflector focuses a plasma blast through openings in the probe, directing the blast force away from the ends of the probe, wherein at least a portion of the high voltage electrode and the ground electrode are submerged in the blast media. The blasting media comprises water alone or in combination with other materials. The robust blast probe permits the aiming of the blast outside of the probe.
Claims20
A blasting system comprising:
- a borehole;
- a blast probe positioned within the borehole, the blast probe comprising a high voltage electrode,
- a dielectric material surrounding the high voltage electrode,
- a ground casing tube surrounding blast media, said ground casing tube connected to an electrical ground,
- a threaded, removable ground deflector, shaped to direct a plasma blast force away from ends of the blast probe, screwed into the electrical ground at an opposite end of the ground casing tube from the high voltage electrode;
- and
- a plurality of openings in a side of the ground casing tube;
- and
- the blast media comprising water or other incompressible fluid wherein the high voltage electrode and the ground casing tube are submerged in the blast media.
A blast probe apparatus comprising:
- a high voltage electrode;
- a dielectric material surrounding the high voltage electrode;
- a ground casing tube surrounding blast media, said ground casing tube connected to an electrical ground;
- a threaded, removable ground deflector, shaped to direct a plasma blast force away from ends of the blast probe apparatus, attached to the electrical ground at an opposite end of the ground casing tube from the high voltage electrode;
- and
- a plurality of openings in a side of the ground casing tube.
A blast probe apparatus comprising:
- a high voltage electrode;
- a threaded, removable electrode deflector screwed into the high voltage electrode;
- a dielectric material surrounding the high voltage electrode;
- a ground casing tube surrounding blast media, said ground casing tube connected to an electrical ground;
- and
- a plurality of openings in a side of the ground casing tube.
