Abstract
A hemostatic surface application device having a region of hemostatic foam for contact with a patient's skin where a wound exists or is created, the device includes: a release layer, the release layer in contact with a hemostatic flexible foam section, and a structural foam layer having a front side and a back side surrounding the hemostatic flexible foam layer, forming a generally central hemostatic surface exposed through the front side of the surrounding structural foam layer, and a support layer adhered to the backside of the structural foam layer.
Claims20
A hemostatic surface application device having a region of hemostatic foam for contact with a patient's skin where a wound exists or is created, the device comprising:
- a release layer, the release layer in contact with a hemostatic flexible foam layer, a structural foam layer having a front side and a back side surrounding a hemostatic flexible foam layer, forming a generally central hemostatic surface exposed through the front side of the surrounding structural foam layer, and
- a support layer adhered to the back side of the structural foam layer,
- wherein the support layer has an opening therein which exposes at least 5% of the back side of the structural foam layer to enable water to irrigate the structural foam layer during removal of the device from contact with a patient's skin.
A method of reducing excessive blood flow off an exterior surface wound of a patient comprising removing a release layer of a hemostatic surface application device comprising a region of hemostatic foam for contact with a patient's skin where a wound exists or is created, the device comprising:
- a release layer, the release layer in contact with a hemostatic flexible foam layer, and the structural foam layer having a front side and a back side surrounding a hemostatic flexible foam layer, forming a hemostatic surface exposed through the front side of the surrounding structural foam layer, and a support layer adhered to the back side of the structural foam layer, wherein the support layer has an opening therein which exposes at least 5% of the back side of the structural foam layer to enable water to irrigate the structural fam layer during removal of the device from contact with a patient's skin and applying hemostatic surface to a limited area of skin of the patient.
