Abstract
The present disclosure relates to marine fuel compositions having low sulfur content and processes for making such compositions.
Claims20
A low sulfur fuel oil bunker component, having:
- density at 15° C. between 0.985 and 0.999 g/cm3;
- viscosity at 135° C. between 30-42 mm2/s;
- acid number of less than 1 mg KOH/g;
- sulfur content of 4500-6000 wt ppm;
- and
- a nitrogen content of from 4000 to 5000 wt ppm.

A process for producing a low sulfur fuel oil bunker component from a vacuum residue, the low sulfur fuel oil bunker component having:
- density at 15° C. between 0.985 and 0.999 g/cm3;
- viscosity at 135° C. between 30-42 mm2/s;
- acid number of less than 1 mg KOH/g;
- sulfur content of 4500-6000 wt ppm;
- and
- a nitrogen content of from 4000 to 5000 wt ppm, the process comprising:
- (a) providing a vacuum residue, and dividing said vacuum residue into a bypass stream and a feed to solvent deasphalting (SDA);
- (b) solvent deasphalting said feed to SDA and recovery of a deasphalted fraction;
- (c) hydrocracking a combined feed of said deasphalted fraction and the bypass stream at a hydrocracking unit having at least one ebullated bed reactor with constant catalyst activity;
- and
- (d) recovering the low sulfur fuel oil bunker component as a residue from said hydrocracking unit.
