Peptides are provided herein, wherein the peptide bearing one or more amino acid sequence differences relative to SEQ ID NO: 1, with the amino acid sequence differences comprising at least one cysteine replacement or addition.

A method comprising:
- applying to hair a composition comprising a plurality of a peptide comprising substitution of an at least one amino acid of SEQ ID NO:1 with a cysteine, wherein the peptide comprises at least 50% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO:1.
