Abstract
Methods and systems to assess clogging associated with a first well perform steps in order. A first well in maintained a quiescent state for a period of time. Water is not pumped from the first well in the quiescent state. A pump attached to the first well is turned to an ON state. Water is pumped from the first well during the ON state. A water sample is received from the first well during the ON state. The water sample is collected during a time period corresponding to a surge in mobile particles. A first concentration of mobile particles is determined during the surge. The first concentration of mobile particles is analyzed for clogging specific information related to a state of clogging associated with the first well.
Claims31
A method to assess clogging associated with a first well where the following steps are performed in order, comprising:
- maintaining the first well in a quiescent state for a period of time, wherein water is not pumped from the first well in the quiescent state;
- turning a pump attached to the first well to an ON state, wherein water is pumped from the first well during the ON state;
- receiving a first water sample from the first well during the ON state, wherein the first water sample is collected during a time period corresponding to a first surge in mobile particles;
- determining a first concentration of mobile particles during the first surge;
- waiting a subsequent time after the receiving;
- repeating, after the waiting, the maintaining, the turning, and the receiving to obtain a second water sample during a time period corresponding to a second surge in mobile particles;
- determining a second concentration of mobile particles during the second surge;
- and
- analyzing a difference between the first concentration of mobile particles and the second concentration of mobile particles for clogging specific information related to a state of clogging associated with the first well.
An apparatus to assess clogging associated with a first well, comprising:
- a well water analysis device, the device further comprising:
- a particle counter, the particle counter is configured to output a first signal, the first signal is representative of mobile particles detected in water during a first start-up transient of the first well from a first quiescent state;
- and
- a data processing system configured to accept first mobile particle data;
- and
- a computer readable medium containing executable computer program instructions which, when executed by the data processing system, cause the data processing system to perform steps comprising:
- receiving first mobile particle data;
- storing the first mobile particle data as a function of time;
- receiving second mobile particle data, wherein the second mobile particle data is related to a second signal received during a second surge in mobile particles during a second startup transient of the first well and the second surge is separated in time from the first surge by a time interval;
- storing second mobile particle data as a function of time:
- identifying, in the first mobile particle data, a first surge in mobile particles during the first start-up transient;
- identifying, in the second mobile particle data, a second surge in mobile particles during the second start-up transient;
- and
- determining a state of clogging for the first well from a first concentration of mobile particles in the first surge and a second concentration of mobile particles in the second surge.
A non-transitory computer readable medium containing executable computer program instructions which, when executed by the data processing system, cause the data processing system to perform, steps comprising:
- determining a first concentration of mobile particles during a first surge, wherein the first surge results from a first startup transient of the first well following a first transition from a first quiescent state;
- determining a second concentration of mobile particles during a second surge, wherein the second surge results from a second startup transient of the first well following a second transition from a second quiescent state at a subsequent time relative to the first surge;
- and
- analyzing the first concentration and the second concentration for clogging specific information related to a state of clogging associated with the first well.
