Abstract
Nonlinear optical chromophores having thiophene-containing bridging groups between the electron-donating and electron-accepting ends of the chromophore are disclosed, including bridging groups which contain cyclic moieties in combination with conjugated double bonds between the electron-donating and electron-accepting ends of the chromophore.
Claims4
An electro-optical film comprising a nonlinear optical chromophore dispersed and poled within a host polymer matrix, wherein the nonlinear optical chromophore of the general formula (I):
- wherein D represents a moiety comprising an electron-donating group of the formula (Id):
- wherein A represents an electron-accepting group of the general formula (Ia):
- wherein one of R2 and R3 represents a C1-C4 alkyl group and the other one of R2 and R3 represents a substituted phenyl, and wherein X in the formula (I) represents an unsubstituted C3-C4 diyl moiety;
- wherein each a and b independently represents an integer of 1;
- and z represents an integer of 1 to 3.
An electro-optic device comprising one or more electro-optical film, wherein the one or more electro-optical film each comprising a nonlinear optical chromophore dispersed and poled within a host polymer matrix, wherein the nonlinear optical chromophore of the general formula (I):
- wherein D represents a moiety comprising an electron-donating group of the formula (Id):
- wherein A represents an electron-accepting group of the general formula (Ia):
- wherein one of R2 and R3 represents a C1-C4 alkyl group and the other one of R2 and R3 represents a substituted phenyl, and wherein X in the formula (I) represents an unsubstituted C3-C4 diyl moiety;
- wherein each a and b independently represents an integer of 1;
- and z represents an integer of 1 to 3.
