Apparatus and method for roasting coffee beans

An apparatus for roasting coffee beans, the apparatus comprising:

• a vessel configured to contain the coffee beans,
• a heating device configured to heat the coffee beans contained in the vessel,
• a control system operable to control the heating device and configured to apply a roasting recipe by providing a temperature T@t1 to be applied at discrete successive times ti,
• wherein, for a customized quantity m of coffee beans of type Ny introduced inside the vessel, the control system is configured to obtain at least:
• the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, and
• the type Ny of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, and
• wherein, based on the type Ny, the control system is configured to access a roasting recipe Ry, the roasting recipe Ry being adapted to roast a pre-determined quantity M of coffee beans of type Ny and to the pre-determined quantity M, and
• based on the roasting recipe Ry, on the pre-determined quantity M, and on the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, the control system is configured to determine the roasting recipe to be applied to the customized quantity m of the coffee beans of the type Ny introduced inside the vessel,
• wherein the control system is configured to determine the roasting recipe to be applied on the coffee beans from the roasting recipe Ry, the roasting recipe Ry providing temperature TM@t1 to be applied at the discrete successive times ti, and from the pre-determined quantity M and from the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, by determining the temperature TM@t1, to be applied to the customized quantity m of coffee beans at each of the discrete successive times t1, as follows:
• if m>M, then Tm@ti=TM@ti+[TM@ti·C·(m−M)/M]
• if m<M, then Tm@ti=TM@ti−[TM@ti·C·(M−m)/M]
• with C≤1.

An apparatus for roasting coffee beans, the apparatus comprising:

• a vessel configured to contain the coffee beans,
• a heating device configured to heat the coffee beans contained in the vessel,
• a control system operable to control the heating device and configured to apply a roasting recipe by providing a temperature T@t1 to be applied at discrete successive times ti,
• wherein, for a customized quantity m of coffee beans of type Ny introduced inside the vessel, the control system is configured to obtain at least:
• the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, and
• the type Ny of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, and
• wherein, based on the type Ny, the control system is configured to access a roasting recipe Ry, the roasting recipe Ry being adapted to roast a pre-determined quantity M of coffee beans of type Ny and to the pre-determined quantity M, and
• based on the roasting recipe Ry, on the pre-determined quantity M, and on the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, the control system is configured to determine the roasting recipe to be applied to the customized quantity m of the coffee beans of the type Ny introduced inside the vessel, wherein the control system is configured to obtain a further use of the roasted beans in a list of pre-determined uses uα, and
• based on the type Ny and on the further use ux, the control system is configured to access a roasting recipe Ryx, the recipe adapted to the roasting of the pre-determined quantity M of coffee beans of type Ny and for the further use ux of the roasted beans, and to the pre-determined quantity M, and
• wherein, based on the roasting recipe Ryx and the pre-determined quantity M and based on the quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, the control system is configured to determine the roasting recipe to be applied to the quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel for the further use of the roasted beans.

A system for roasting coffee beans, the system comprising:

• a roasting apparatus comprising:
• a vessel configured to contain coffee beans,
• a heating device configured to heat coffee beans contained in the vessel,
• a control system operable to control the heating device and configured to apply a roasting recipe providing a temperature T@t1, to be applied at discrete successive times t1,
• wherein, for a customized quantity m of coffee beans of type Ny introduced inside the vessel,
• the control system is configured to obtain at least:
• the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, and
• the type Ny of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, and
• based on the type Ny, the control system is configured to access a roasting recipe Ry, the roasting recipe Ry being adapted to roast a pre-determined quantity M of coffee beans of type Ny, and to the pre-determined quantity M, and
• based on the roasting recipe Ry, on the pre-determined quantity M and on customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, the control system is configured to determine the roasting recipe to be applied to the customized quantity m of coffee beans of type Ny introduced inside the vessel, and
• a measuring apparatus configured for measuring a quantity of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, and
• wherein the control system of the apparatus is operable to obtain the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel and measured by the measuring apparatus.

A method of roasting coffee beans in an apparatus, the apparatus comprising:

• a vessel configured to contain the coffee beans,
• a heating device configured to heat the coffee beans contained in the vessel,
• a control system operable to control the heating device and configured to apply a roasting recipe by providing a temperature T@t1 to be applied at discrete successive times t1, and
• a measuring device configured to measure a customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced in the vessel,
• the method comprising:
• obtaining the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel and a type Ny of the coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, wherein the customized quantity m of coffee beans is automatically measured by the measuring device, and
• based on the type Ny, accessing a roasting recipe Ry, the roasting recipe Ry being adapted to roast a pre-determined quantity M of coffee beans of the type Ny, and to the pre-determined quantity M, and
• based on the roasting recipe Ry and the pre-determined quantity M, and based on the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, determining the roasting recipe to be applied to the customized quantity m of coffee beans of type Ny introduced inside the vessel, wherein the customized quantity m of coffee beans comprises any quantity of coffee beans.

A method of roasting coffee beans in an apparatus, the apparatus comprising:

• a vessel configured to contain the coffee beans,
• a heating device configured to heat the coffee beans contained in the vessel,
• a control system operable to control the heating device and configured to apply a roasting recipe by providing a temperature T@t1 to be applied at discrete successive times t1,
• the method comprising:
• obtaining a customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel and a type Ny of the coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, and
• based on the type Ny, accessing a roasting recipe Ry, the roasting recipe Ry being adapted to roast a pre-determined quantity M of coffee beans of the type Ny, and to the pre-determined quantity M, and
• based on the roasting recipe Ry and the pre-determined quantity M, and based on the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel, determining the roasting recipe to be applied to the customized quantity m of coffee beans of type Ny introduced inside the vessel,
• wherein the roasting recipe to be applied on the coffee beans is determined from the roasting recipe Ry, the roasting recipe Ry providing the temperature TM@t1 respectively to be applied at discrete successive times t1, from the pre-determined quantity M, and from the customized quantity m of coffee beans introduced inside the vessel,
• by determining the temperature Tm to be applied to the customized quantity m of coffee beans at each of the discrete successive times ti, as follows:
• if m>M, then Tm@ti=TM@ti+[TM@ti·C·(m−M)/M]
• if m<M, then Tm@ti=TM@ti−[TM@ti·C·(M−m)/M]
• with C≤1.
