Abstract
An electronic watch includes a housing defining a side surface of the electronic watch, a transparent cover coupled to the housing and defining a front surface of the electronic watch, an image-sensing element, and a crown extending from the side of the housing and defining an imaging surface. The crown may include a light-directing feature configured to direct, onto the image-sensing element, an image of an object in contact with the imaging surface.
Claims20
An electronic watch comprising:
- a housing;
- a display positioned at least partially within the housing;
- a transparent cover coupled to the housing and positioned over the display;
- an input member positioned on a side surface of the electronic watch;
- an optical sensing element configured to detect an object in contact with the input member;
- a haptic actuator configured to produce a tactile output;
- and
- a processing system configured to cause the haptic actuator to produce the tactile output in response to the detection of the object in contact with the input member.

A wearable electronic device comprising:
- a housing;
- a display positioned at least partially within the housing and configured to display a graphical output;
- a haptic actuator configured to produce a tactile output;
- an input member protruding from a surface of the housing;
- and
- an optical sensing system optically coupled to a surface of the input member and configured to detect an input based at least in part on a detected image of an object in contact with the surface of the input member;
- and
- a processing system configured to, in response to detecting the input:
- modify the graphical output on the display;
- and
- produce the tactile output.

A wearable electronic device comprising:
- a housing defining an exterior surface;
- an input member positioned along the exterior surface and defining a peripheral input surface and an axial input surface;
- a haptic actuator within the housing;
- an optical sensing system at least partially within the housing and comprising an optical sensing element, the optical sensing system configured to detect a first input at the peripheral input surface and a second input at the axial input surface;
- and
- a processing system operatively coupled to the haptic actuator and the optical sensing system and configured to:
- cause the haptic actuator to produce a first tactile output in response to the first input;
- and
- cause the haptic actuator to produce a second tactile output in response to the second input.
