Abstract
The systems and methods disclosed herein provide for the efficient separation of gas from fluid comprising liquid. In particular, gas separator systems and methods for use in bioreactor systems and operations are disclosed herein providing an efficient means to remove gaseous waste products, unreacted gaseous substrates, and or inert gas from broth of the biological fermentation of carbon substrates using a microorganism biocatalyst.
Claims8
A method of separating gas from a liquid comprising:
- feeding a fluid comprising liquid and gas into at least one inlet of a separator vessel;
- channeling the fluid from the inlet into a fluid distributor positioned within the separator vessel;
- directing the fluid within the fluid distributor and uniformly irrigating, through orifices in the fluid distributor, a plurality of inclined plates positioned within the separator vessel and along a length of the fluid distributor;
- allowing the gas to rise against the plurality of inclined plates;
- draining the liquid through at least one liquid outlet;
- and
- removing the gas through at least one gas outlet.
