Abstract
A method of water decontamination includes contacting a MoO3@Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material with an aqueous solution to form a reaction mixture. The aqueous solution includes one or more contaminants. The method further includes mixing the reaction mixture and collecting a filtrate. The filtrate has fewer of the one or more contaminants than the aqueous solution. The MoO3 content of the MoO3@Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material ranges from 1 wt. % to 20 wt. % of the total weight of the MoO3@Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material. The MoO3@Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material has a surface area of greater than or equal to 50 m2/g.
Claims20
A method of water decontamination, comprising:
- contacting a MoO3@Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material with an aqueous solution to form a reaction mixture,
- wherein the aqueous solution comprises one or more contaminants,
- mixing the reaction mixture;
- and
- collecting a filtrate,
- wherein the filtrate has fewer of the one or more contaminants than the aqueous solution,
- wherein the MoO3 content of the MoO3@ Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material is in a range from 1 to 20 wt. % of the total weight of the MoO3@Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material, and
- wherein the MoO3@Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material has a surface area of greater than or equal to 50 m2/g.
A method for synthesizing a MoO3@Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material, comprising:
- adding distilled water and HNO3 to a powder mixture of Al(NO3)3·9H2O, Mg(Ac)2·4H2O, MoO3, and sucrose to form a reaction mixture;
- heating the reaction mixture to a reaction temperature in a range of 150 to 200° C.;
- reacting the reaction mixture at the reaction temperature until a carbonized product is formed;
- grinding the carbonized product to form a ground carbonized product;
- and
- calcining the ground carbonized product at a temperature in a range from 700 to 800° C. for a period of 2 to 4 hours to form the MoO3@Al2O3—MgO nanocomposite material.
