Print consumable detection

A print system comprising:

• a housing defining a bay dimensioned to receive a print consumable, the print consumable comprising:
• a rotatable core extending along a core axis between a first core end and a second core end;
• a roll of dispensable print substrate dispensably secured to the core about the core axis;
• and
• a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag coupled to the core adjacent the first core end or the second core end, wherein the RFID tag comprises an RFID chip associated with a stock-keeping unit (SKU) code, and wherein the RFID chip is associated with a consumable authentication code that is not modifiable;
• and
• wherein the SKU code is password-protected;
• a holder configured to secure the print consumable about a rotation axis aligned with the core axis;
• a print head configured to print a pattern on the print substrate;
• a trace antenna configured to read the RFID tag, wherein the trace antenna extends in a direction transverse to the rotation axis;
• a transceiver coupled to the trace antenna;
• and
• a controller coupled to the transceiver, wherein the controller is configured to receive a signal from the transceiver indicative of the SKU code.
