Abstract
A method and apparatus for controlling arc/short between a wire and a work piece is described. A current path parallel to the wire/work is provided. The voltage drop across the parallel path can be preset, to limit the wire/work voltage, or it can be controlled to a desired level. The control can be in response to feedback.
Claims9
A welding-type system to output welding-type power, comprising:
- a power circuit configured to output welding-type power to a first electrode and a second electrode via a working current path between the first electrode and the second electrode, the working current path configured to conduct the welding-type power;
- and
- a bypass path for the welding-type power, wherein:
- the bypass path comprises a plurality of diodes,
- a first diode of the plurality of diodes comprises a first voltage drop and a second diode of the plurality of diodes comprises a second voltage drop, and
- upon a voltage of the working current path exceeding a voltage threshold, the bypass path conducts the welding-type power in parallel with the working current path.
