Abstract
A multi-function device is disclosed. A first port may be used to communicate with a host processor. A second port may be used to communicate with a storage device. A third port may be used to communicate with a computational storage unit. Circuit may be used to route a message from the host processor to at least one of the storage device or the computational storage unit.
Claims17
A multi-function device, comprising:
- a first port to communicate with a host processor;
- a second port to communicate with a storage device;
- a third port to communicate with a computational storage unit;
- a first circuit connected to the first port, the second port, and the third port to route a message from the host processor to at least one of the storage device or the computational storage unit;
- a second circuit connected to the second port and the third port to support peer-to-peer communication between the storage device and the computational storage unit;
- a buffer to store a first data and a second data, a first device configured to write the first data into the buffer and a second device configured to read the second data from the buffer, the first device one of the storage device and the computational storage unit and the second device one of the storage device and the computational storage unit, the first device different from the second device;
- and
- a data processor to process the first data in the buffer to generate the second data, the first data different from the second data.
A method, comprising:
- receiving, performed by a multi-function device, a request at a first port from a host processor;
- identifying, performed by the multi-function device, a first device from the request;
- identifying, performed by the multi-function device, a second port of the multi-function device connected to the first device;
- transmitting, performed by the multi-function device, the request from the multi-function device to the first device over the second port of the multi-function device;
- writing, performed by the first device via the second port, a first data in a buffer, the multi-function device including the buffer;
- processing, performed by a data processor, the first data in the buffer to generate a second data in the buffer, the second data different from the first data, the multi-function device including the data processor;
- and
- reading, performed by a second device via a third port, the second data from the buffer,
- wherein the multi-function device includes the third port connected to the second device, and
- wherein the first device is drawn from a set including a storage device or a computational storage unit,
- the second device is drawn from the set including the storage device or the computational storage unit, and the first device is different from the second device.
An article, comprising a non-transitory storage medium, the non-transitory storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed by a machine, result in:
- receiving a request at a first port of a multi-function device from a host processor;
- identifying a first device from the request;
- identifying a second port of the multi-function device connected to the first device;
- transmitting the request to the first device over the second port of the multi-function device;
- writing a first data in a buffer, the multi-function device including the buffer;
- processing the first data in the buffer to generate a second data in the buffer, the second data different from the first data, the multi-function device including the data processor;
- and
- reading the second data from the buffer,
- wherein the multi-function device includes the third port connected to the second device, and
- wherein the first device is drawn from a set including a storage device or a computational storage unit,
- the second device is drawn from the set including the storage device or the computational storage unit, and the first device is different from the second device.
