Abstract
Methods and systems are used to estimate specific capacity of a first well where the steps are performed in order. At least two depth to water measurements are made along with a corresponding time of occurrence for each of the at least two depth to water measurements. The measurements occur during a start-up transient of the first well after the first well has been maintained in a quiescent state for a first period of time. An extrapolated depth to water is estimated at an extrapolated pumping time using a mathematical model. Inputs to the mathematical model are derived from the at least two depth to water measurements. A first specific capacity estimate is created for the first well using the extrapolated depth to water estimate and a fixed pumping rate.

A method for estimating specific capacity of a first well where the following steps are performed in order, the method comprising:
- maintaining the first well in a quiescent state for a first period of time, wherein water is not pumped from the first well in the quiescent state;
- turning a pump attached to the first well to an ON state, wherein the water is pumped from the first well during the ON state;
- making at least two depth to water measurements, wherein the making includes a corresponding time of occurrence for each of the at least two depth to water measurements and the making occurs during a start-up transient of the first well after the first well has been maintained in the quiescent state for the first period of time;
- estimating an extrapolated depth to water at an extrapolated pumping time, wherein the estimating utilizes a mathematical model, inputs to the mathematical model are derived from the at least two depth to water measurements;
- and
- creating a first specific capacity estimate for the first well using the extrapolated depth to water and a fixed pumping rate.
A system for estimating specific capacity of a first well, comprising:
- a depth to water measurement device used to measure a depth to water in the first well, wherein the first well is to be maintained in a quiescent state for a first period of time, water is not pumped from the first well in the quiescent state, after the first period of time a pump attached to the first well is to be turned to an ON state wherein a start-up transient commences as the water is pumped from the first well during the ON state;
- a data processing system;
- and
- a non-transitory computer readable medium containing executable computer program instructions which, when executed by the data processing system, cause the data processing system to perform steps comprising:
- receiving at least two depth to water measurements and a corresponding time of occurrence for each of the at least two depth to water measurements, wherein the receiving occurs during the start-up transient of the first well after the first well has been maintained in the quiescent state for the first period of time;
- estimating an extrapolated depth to water at an extrapolated pumping time, wherein the estimating utilizes a mathematical model, inputs to the mathematical model are derived from the at least two depth to water measurements and the corresponding time of occurrence for each of the at least two depth to water measurements;
- and
- creating a first specific capacity estimate for the first well using the extrapolated depth to water and a fixed pumping rate.
A non-transitory computer readable medium containing executable computer program instructions which, when executed by a data processing system, cause the data processing system to perform steps comprising:
- receiving at least two depth to water measurements and a corresponding time of occurrence for each of the at least two depth to water measurements, wherein the receiving occurs during a start-up transient of a first well after the first well has been maintained in a quiescent state for a first period of time;
