Laundry treatment appliance with water softening system

A laundry treatment appliance comprising:

• a laundry treatment chamber;
• a treatment agent delivery system comprising storage for an amount of treatment agent sufficient for performing a plurality of treatment cycles, and to deliver a treatment agent dose towards the laundry treatment chamber, the treatment agent dose being a fraction of the stored amount of treatment agent;
• a water supply unit for supplying fresh water having a first level of hardness;
• a water softening system coupled to the water supply unit and to the treatment agent delivery system, wherein the water softening system supplies softened water having a second level of hardness lower than the first level of hardness to the treatment agent delivery system;
• a water hardness sensing unit operably coupled to both the water supply unit and the water softening system for sensing one or both of the first level of hardness or the second level of hardness;
• and
• a control unit operably coupled to the water supply unit and the water softening system,
• wherein the control unit is configured to determine the treatment agent dose based on the first level of hardness or the second level of hardness.
