Abstract
Systems for monitoring brake systems on railway assets include a load measuring device. The load measuring device includes an instrumented coupling configured to be connected to the rigging of a brake system of the railway asset; and to an underframe of the railway asset. The load measuring device also includes a data collection unit configured to process an output of a sensor of the instrumented coupling and, based on the sensor output, determine the force being transmitted between the brake rigging and the underframe.
Claims20
A load measuring device, comprising:
- a coupling structure configured to mechanically connect an articulating component of a mobile platform with a non-articulating component of the mobile platform in a manner that allows relative movement to occur between the articulating component and non-articulating component;
- and
- a sensor coupled to the coupling structure and configured to measure a force transmitted between the articulating component and the non-articulating component, wherein a sensing axis of the sensor remains aligned with a direction of force transmission as an orientation of the articulating component changes in relation to the non-articulating component.
