Abstract
An apparatus includes a portable housing with a cavity, a heater disposed within the cavity of the housing, a temperature buffering device coupled to the heater and disposed within the cavity of the housing, a non-biological skin substitute substrate coupled to the temperature buffering device and disposed within the cavity of the housing, and a carbon dioxide delivery device coupled to the housing. The non-biological skin substrate simulates a surface property of human skin.
Claims20
An apparatus, comprising:
- a portable housing with a cavity, the cavity having an opening at a first side to an ambient environment;
- a heater disposed within the cavity of the housing;
- a temperature buffering device coupled to the heater and disposed within the cavity of the housing;
- a non-biological skin substitute substrate coupled to the temperature buffering device and disposed within the cavity of the housing, the non-biological skin substrate having a surface roughness with an Ra value that is within a range of surface roughness values of human skin, wherein a surface of the non-biological skin substrate faces the opening, the surface being accessible to insects entering the portable housing through the opening;
- and
- a carbon dioxide delivery device coupled to the housing.

An apparatus, comprising:
- a portable housing having an opening at a first side, the opening sized and positioned to allow insects from an ambient environment to enter the portable housing;
- a heater disposed within the housing;
- a temperature buffering device coupled to the heater and disposed within the housing;
- a non-biological skin substitute substrate coupled to the temperature buffering device and disposed within the housing, the non-biological skin substrate simulating a surface roughness of human skin with an Ra value that is within a range of surface roughness values of human skin, wherein the non-biological skin substrate is positioned at the first side of the housing and faces the opening;
