Abstract
Systems, devices, and techniques described herein relate to iron-based desalination of water. In some cases, an inflow of water including chlorine and sodium can be received. A plurality of iron nanoparticles may capture the chlorine and the sodium. The iron nanoparticles may at least partially include Zero Valent Iron (ZVI). An outflow of the water may be emitted. The chlorine and the sodium may be omitted from the outflow.
Claims19
A desalination method, comprising:
- receiving an inflow of water comprising chlorine and sodium;
- injecting an oxidation agent into the water;
- injecting a reducing agent into the water;
- capturing, by particles, the chlorine and the sodium;
- and
- emitting an outflow of the water.

A desalination method, comprising:
- releasing, by a saline water tank, saline through a fluid circuit;
- receiving, by at least one desalination component disposed at a lower elevation than the saline water tank, an inflow of the saline;
- injecting an oxidation agent into the saline;
- injecting a reducing agent into the saline;
- converting the saline to desalinated water by capturing, via zero valent iron (ZVI) nanoparticles in the at least one desalination component, chlorine and sodium in the saline;
- emitting an outflow of the desalinated water;
- determining, by a salinity sensor, that a salinity of the desalinated water exceeds a predetermined threshold;
- in response to determining that the salinity exceeds the predetermined threshold, activating a pump;
- and
- pumping, by the pump, the desalinated water into the saline water tank.
7 more elements
A desalination method, comprising:
- generating a first reducing agent by extracting a flavonoid and/or phenol from tea;
- generating particles by mixing a salt, the first reducing agent, and a stabilizer;
- injecting an oxidizing agent into water;
- injecting a second reducing agent into the water;
- capturing, via the particles, chlorine and sodium in the water;
- and
- emitting the water.
