Abstract
Disclosed herein is the use a cyanobacterial biomass for treating hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, in particular, chronic HBV infection. According to various embodiments of the present disclosure, the cyanobacterial biomass, upon administration of at least one month, significantly reduces the level of the surface antigen of hepatitis B virus (HBsAg) detectable in the subject receiving the treatment and/or mitigates insomnia associated with chronic HBV infection.
Claims8
A method for reducing the level of the surface antigen of hepatitis B virus (HBsAg) detectable in a subject suffering from chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in a subject in need thereof, comprising the step of administering to the subject an effective amount of a cyanobacterial biomass, and the step of administering an effective amount of an antiviral agent, wherein the cyanobacterial biomass is derived from Arthrospira maxima and the cyanobacterial biomass is administered orally at an effective amount of 1 to 20 grams per day for at least three months to result in a decrease of HBsAg level by at least 30%.
