Abstract
The present invention relates to a process for reducing and/or preventing an increase in lactic acid levels in a fermentation product production process, such as especially ethanol production, wherein a lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase (LPMO) or an enzyme composition comprising an LPMO is added before or during saccharification and/or fermentation, or before or during propagation, to reduce and/or prevent an increase in lactic acid levels.
Claims17
A process for reducing and/or preventing an increase in lactic acid levels in a biofuel fermentation system, the process comprising introducing a lytic polysaccharide monooxygenase (LPMO) polypeptide or an enzyme composition comprising the LPMO polypeptide into the biofuel fermentation system, wherein the biofuel fermentation system comprises one or more fermentation vessels, pipes and/or components, and wherein the LPMO polypeptide or enzyme composition comprising the LPMO polypeptide is added at a concentration sufficient to reduce and/or prevent an increase in lactic acid levels in the biofuel fermentation system by reducing and/or preventing bacterial contamination during fermentation.
A process for producing a fermentation product from a starch-containing material, the process comprising:
- a) saccharifying a starch-containing material at a temperature below the initial gelatinization temperature using a carbohydrate source generating enzyme;
- and
- b) fermenting the saccharified starch-containing material using a fermenting organism,
- wherein at least one LPMO polypeptide or enzyme composition comprising at least one LPMO polypeptide is added before or during saccharifying step a) and/or fermenting step b).
