Abstract
Provided herein are compositions and methods for producing milk proteins, which allow for safe, sustainable and humane production of milk proteins for commercial use, such as use in food compositions. The disclosure provides recombinant fusion proteins comprising at least first protein and a second protein, wherein at least one of the first protein and the second protein is a milk protein, or fragment thereof. The disclosure also provides methods for producing the recombinant fusions proteins, and food compositions comprising the same.
Claims30
A method of making a food composition, said method comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a plant cell expressing:
- i) a heterologous casein protein;
- and
- ii) a heterologous Fam20C kinase protein;
- b) obtaining the heterologous casein protein from the plant cell;
- and
- c) processing the heterologous casein protein into a food composition, thereby making the food composition.
A method of producing a plant-based casein mimic, said method comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a plant cell expressing:
- i) a heterologous casein protein;
- and
- ii) a heterologous Fam20C kinase protein;
- and
- b) separating the heterologous casein protein from the plant cell.
