Abstract
An electronically controlled motor driven siren. The siren is electronically controlled to generate different sound profiles, while having advantages of a motor driven mechanical siren. In some embodiments, the siren is part of a system of multiple sirens. The phases of the rotors of the sirens of the system can be electronically controlled to generate different multi-siren combined sound profiles.
Claims20
A siren, comprising:
- a motor;
- a stator;
- a rotor configured to be driven by the motor to spin relative to the stator, a spin speed of the rotor determining an attribute of a siren sound produced by the siren;
- and
- a controller including a processor and memory, the memory encoding instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the controller to modify the attribute of the siren sound by adjusting the spin speed.

A system, comprising:
- sirens, each of the sirens including:
- a motor;
- a stator;
- and
- a rotor configured to be driven by the motor to spin relative to the stator, a spin speed of the rotor determining an attribute of a siren sound;
- and
- a controller, including a processor and memory, the memory encoding instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause each motor to adjust a phase or the spin speed of each rotor independently.
4 more elements
A coordinated emergency system, comprising:
- structural bodies;
- sirens, each of the sirens including:
- a motor;
- a stator;
- and
- a rotor configured to be driven by the motor to spin relative to the stator, a spin speed of the rotor determining an attribute of a siren sound, one of the sirens being mounted to one of the structural bodies, another of the sirens being mounted to another of the structural bodies;
- and
- a controller, including a processor and memory, the memory encoding instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause each motor to adjust a phase or the spin speed of each rotor independently to generate a combined sound profile from the sirens such that the combined sound profile appears to be moving relative to a stationary observer.
