Abstract
Electronic article surveillance (EAS) in which an EAS-enabled item includes a textile element and an EAS element. The EAS element includes an antenna subsystem and EAS electronic. The antenna subsystem is integrated into the textile element, where “integrated” connotes a manner of incorporation that would require damage to the item to remove by typical methods. The EAS electronics are in conductive communication with the antenna subsystem.
Claims12
An electronic article surveillance (EAS) enabled item, comprising:
- a textile element;
- a radio frequency identification (RFID) element;
- and
- an EAS element configured to communicate with an inventory management system, the EAS element comprising:
- an antenna subsystem integrated into the textile element;
- and
- EAS electronics, in communication with the antenna subsystem;
- wherein the antenna subsystem comprises two dipole antenna elements each extending from the EAS electronics in corresponding opposite directions from a diametric line through the EAS electronics, and wherein the two dipole antenna elements each extend from a corresponding opposite side of the diametric line,
- wherein the EAS element comprises an energy harvesting subsystem configured to harvest energy from at least two of heat, light, vibration, magnetic field, or RF energy.
A textile, comprising:
- a radio frequency identification (RFID) element;
- and
- an EAS element configured to communicate with an inventory management system, the EAS element comprising:
- an antenna subsystem integrated into the textile;
- and
- EAS electronics, in communication with the antenna subsystem:
- wherein the antenna subsystem comprises two dipole antenna elements each extending from the EAS electronics in corresponding opposite directions from a diametric line through the EAS electronics, and wherein the two dipole antenna elements each extend from a corresponding opposite side of the diametric line,
- wherein the EAS element comprises an energy harvesting subsystem configured to harvest energy from at least two of heat, light, vibration, magnetic field, or RF energy.
A method of Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS), comprising:
- providing a textile element;
- providing a radio frequency identification (RFID) element;
- providing an EAS element configured to communicate with an inventory management system, comprising an antenna subsystem integratable into the textile element and EAS electronics, in communication with the antenna subsystem;
- and
- integrating the antenna subsystem into the textile element:
- wherein the antenna subsystem comprises two dipole antenna elements each extending from the EAS electronics in corresponding opposite directions from a diametric line through the EAS electronics, and wherein the two dipole antenna elements each extend from a corresponding opposite side of the diametric line,
- wherein the EAS element comprises an energy harvesting subsystem configured to harvest energy from at least two of heat, light, vibration, magnetic field, or RF energy.
