## Abstract

A request is received to perform an action for a domain of a name service, wherein the name service is implemented using at least a first blockchain network and a second blockchain network different from the first blockchain network. A determination is made whether the domain is managed on the first blockchain network or the second blockchain network including by using a domain registry of the second blockchain network. The action for the domain is caused to be performed based on the determination of whether the domain is currently managed on the first blockchain network or the second blockchain network.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method, comprising:
receiving a request to perform an action for a domain of a name service, wherein the name service is implemented using at least a first blockchain network and a second blockchain network different from the first blockchain network;
determining whether the domain is managed on the first blockchain network or the second blockchain network including by using a domain registry of the second blockchain network, wherein the domain registry of the second blockchain network tracks a first group of domains managed on the first blockchain network and a second group of domains managed on the second blockchain network; and
causing the action for the domain to be performed based on the determination of whether the domain is managed on the first blockchain network or the second blockchain network.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the action includes a migration action to transition the domain from the first blockchain network to the second blockchain network.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method of claim 2, further comprising:
receiving a second request to perform a second action for the domain of the name service;
determining that the domain is managed on the second blockchain network; and
utilizing the second blockchain network to perform the second action for the domain.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first blockchain network and the second blockchain network support a common set of virtual machine instructions.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein a transaction cost for processing transactions on the second blockchain network is less than 1/10,000th a transaction cost for processing transactions on the first blockchain network.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the domain registry of the second blockchain network is stored on the second blockchain network.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein the domain registry of the second blockchain network tracks the first group of domains managed on the first blockchain network by storing a state of a domain registry of the first blockchain network.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, wherein the domain registry of the second blockchain network maintains a list of domains included in the first group of domains managed on the first blockchain network.

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, wherein the domain registry of the second blockchain network stores a Merkle root representing the state of the domain registry of the first blockchain network.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the action includes an action to mint a new domain on the first blockchain network.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein the first blockchain network is a layer-1 blockchain and the second blockchain network is a layer-2 blockchain.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, further comprising:
updating a registry of the first blockchain network to include an identifier of the new domain, a domain owner identifier of the new domain, and one or more resolution records for the new domain, wherein the identifier of the new domain, the domain owner identifier, and the one or more resolution records are stored on the first blockchain network; and
updating the domain registry of the second blockchain network to reflect the new domain being minted on the first blockchain network, wherein the domain registry of the second blockchain network is stored on the second blockchain network.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The method of claim 12, wherein the identifier of the new domain is stored as a hash identifier and the domain owner identifier includes a cryptocurrency address.

### Claim 14

A system, comprising:
one or more processors configured to:
receive a request to perform an action for a domain of a name service, wherein the name service is implemented using at least a first blockchain network and a second blockchain network different from the first blockchain network;
determine whether the domain is managed on the first blockchain network or the second blockchain network including by using a domain registry of the second blockchain network, wherein the domain registry of the second blockchain network tracks a first group of domains managed on the first blockchain network and a second group of domains managed on the second blockchain network; and
cause the action for the domain to be performed based on the determination of whether the domain is managed on the first blockchain network or the second blockchain network; and
a memory coupled to at least one of the one or more processors and configured to provide at least one of the one or more processors with instructions.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The system of claim 14, wherein the action includes a migration action to transition the domain from the first blockchain network to the second blockchain network.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The system of claim 14, wherein the domain registry of the second blockchain network tracks the first group of domains managed on the first blockchain network by storing a state of a domain registry of the first blockchain network.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The system of claim 16, wherein the domain registry of the second blockchain network stores a Merkle root representing the state of the domain registry of the first blockchain network.

### Claim 18 (depends on 14)

The system of claim 14, wherein the first blockchain network is a layer-1 blockchain and the second blockchain network is a layer-2 blockchain.

### Claim 19 (depends on 14)

The system of claim 14, wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:
update a registry of the first blockchain network to include an identifier of a new domain, a domain owner identifier of the new domain, and one or more resolution records for the new domain, wherein the identifier of the new domain, the domain owner identifier, and the one or more resolution records are stored on the first blockchain network; and
