Abstract
Apparatus and methods are described for use of a sensor for monitoring a subject generate a sensor signal in response to the monitoring. Also disclosed is a computer processor to analyze the signal, and in response thereto, identify a correspondence between positions of the subject and occurrences of health events of the subject, and generate an output on the output device, in response to the identified correspondence. Other applications are also described.
Claims27
An apparatus for use with an output device, the apparatus comprising:
- a sensor, monitoring a subject during a sleeping session of the subject, without contacting the patient or clothes the patient is wearing and without viewing the patient or clothes the patient is wearing, and generating a sensor signal in response to the monitoring;
- and
- an apnea monitor including a computer processor analyzing the sensor signal and, in response thereto, identifying a correspondence between positions of the subject and occurrences of apnea events of the subject during the sleeping session, and generating an output on the output device in response to the patient being detected to be in a position that corresponds to apnea events that modifies a parameter of a support structure supporting the patient to cause the patient to change the patient's posture, wherein the apnea monitor filters the signal with each of a plurality of filters configured to filter the sensor signal using respective filter parameters to create respective filtered signals, in response to a first respective quality of each of the filtered signals, select one of the plurality of filters to filter the sensor signal, and subsequently:
- detect that the subject has undergone motion, by analyzing the sensor signal, in response thereto, re-filter the signal with each of two or more of the plurality of filters, and in response to a second respective quality of each of the re-filtered signals, select one of the plurality of filters to use to filter the sensor signal after the patient's posture has changed.
An apparatus for use with an output device, the apparatus comprising:
- a sensor, monitoring a subject during a sleeping session of the subject, without contacting the patient or clothes the patient is wearing and without viewing the patient or clothes the patient is wearing, and generating a sensor signal in response to the monitoring;
- and
- an apnea monitor including a computer processor analyzing the sensor signal and, in response thereto, identifying a correspondence between positions of the subject and occurrences of apnea events of the subject during the sleeping session, and generating an output on the output device in response to the patient being detected to be in a position that corresponds to apnea events that modifies a parameter of a support structure supporting the patient to cause the patient to change the patient's posture, wherein the apnea monitor filters the signal with each of a plurality of filters configured to filter the sensor signal using respective filter parameters to create respective filtered signals, in response to a first respective quality of each of the filtered signals, select one of the plurality of filters to filter the sensor signal, and subsequently:
- detect that the subject has undergone motion, by analyzing the sensor signal, in response thereto, re-filter the signal with each of two or more of the plurality of filters, and in response to a second respective quality of each of the re-filtered signals, select one of the plurality of filters to use to filter the sensor signal after the patient's posture has changed,
- wherein the parameter of the support structure modified includes moving the patient to a new position.
An apparatus for use with an output device, the apparatus comprising:
- a sensor, monitoring a subject, during a sleeping session of the subject, without contacting the patient or clothes the patient is wearing and without viewing the patient or clothes the patient is wearing, and generating a sensor signal in response to the monitoring;
- and
- a monitor including a computer processor analyzing the sensor signal and, in response thereto, identifying a sleep status of the patient, and in response to a sleep status of the patient, controlling a temperature-regulation unit to control a temperature applied to at least a portion of the patient's body to improve sleep quality,
- wherein the monitor filters the signal with each of a plurality of filters configured to filter the sensor signal using respective filter parameters to create respective filtered signals, in response to a first respective quality of each of the filtered signals, select one of the plurality of filters to filter the sensor signal, and subsequently:
- detect that the subject has undergone motion to a new posture, by analyzing the sensor signal, in response thereto, re-filter the signal with each of two or more of the plurality of filters, and in response to a second respective quality of each of the re-filtered signals, select one of the plurality of filters to use to filter the sensor signal after the patient's posture has changed,
- wherein the computer processor operates, in response to the sleep stage of the patient, a temperature-regulation unit in a manner intended to wake up the patient.
An apparatus for use with an output device, the apparatus comprising:
- a sensor, monitoring a subject during a sleeping session of the subject, without contacting the patient or clothes the patient is wearing and without viewing the patient or clothes the patient is wearing, and generating a sensor signal in response to the monitoring;
- and
- an apnea monitor including a computer processor analyzing the sensor signal and, in response thereto, identifying a correspondence between positions of the subject and occurrences of apnea events of the subject during the sleeping session, and generating an output on the output device in response to the patient being detected to be in a position that corresponds to apnea events that modifies a parameter of a support structure supporting the patient to cause the patient to change the patient's posture, wherein the apnea monitor filters the signal with each of a plurality of filters configured to filter the sensor signal using respective filter parameters to create respective filtered signals, in response to a first respective quality of each of the filtered signals, select one of the plurality of filters to filter the sensor signal, and subsequently:
- detect that the subject has undergone motion, by analyzing the sensor signal, in response thereto, re-filter the signal with each of two or more of the plurality of filters, and in response to a second respective quality of each of the re-filtered signals, select one of the plurality of filters to use to filter the sensor signal after the patient's posture has changed,
- wherein the parameter of the support structure modified includes changing the level of inflation of an inflatable support supporting a portion of the patient.
