Abstract
A method for writing to tape by a tape drive is provided. The method includes, in response to identifying a write error during a write to a tape in a certain HRTD region, repositioning the tape to a next HRTD region. The method further includes continuing the write at the next HRTD region.

A method for writing to tape by a tape drive, the method comprising:
- in response to identifying a write error during a write to a tape in a certain HRTD region and in response to determining write across write perm is set, repositioning the tape to a next HRTD region;
- and
- continuing the write at the next HRTD region.
A method for reading tape by a tape drive, the method comprising:
- in response to identifying a read error during a read of the tape in a certain HRTD region and in response to determining write across write perm mode is set, repositioning the tape to a next HRTD region;
- and
- continuing the read at the next HRTD region.
A tape storage system comprising a tape drive, the tape drive configured to perform operations comprising:
- in response to identifying a write error during a write to a tape in a certain HRTD region and in response to determining write across write perm mode is set, repositioning the tape to a next HRTD region;
- and
- continuing the write at the next HRTD region.
