## Abstract

A method for preventing digital content misuse can include detecting, by a client-side computing device, that the client-side computing device is paired to a viewing device such that, after being paired, the client-side computing device can cause digital content received from a remote server to be presented on a display of the viewing device; after detecting that the client-side computing device is paired to the viewing device, detecting, by the client-side computing device, that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the viewing device; and in response to detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the viewing device, executing a remedial action.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
detecting, by a client-side digital content delivery device, that a client-side computing device has been unpaired from an authorized viewing device that is separate from the client-side digital content delivery device, wherein the client-side computing device has been paired to the authorized viewing device, via a communication interface between the client-side computing device and the authorized viewing device to cause digital content received from a remote server to be presented on the authorized viewing device; and
in response to detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the authorized viewing device, executing a remedial action;
wherein the communication interface is configured to receive a unique identifier associated with the authorized viewing device.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the authorized viewing device comprises detecting removal of a wired connection between the client-side computing device and the authorized viewing device.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the authorized viewing device comprises detecting loss of a wireless connection between the client-side computing device and the authorized viewing device.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the remedial action comprises disabling presentation of the digital content on the client-side computing device.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, comprising determining that the device identifier received from the authorized viewing device matches a recorded device identifier.

### Claim 6

A client-side digital content delivery device comprising:
one or more processors; and
memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the client-side digital content delivery device to perform operations including, at least:
detecting, by a client-side digital content delivery device, that a client-side computing device has been unpaired from an authorized viewing device that is separate from the client-side digital content delivery device, wherein the client-side computing device has been paired to the authorized viewing device, via a communication interface between the client-side computing device and the authorized viewing device to cause digital content received from a remote server to be presented on the authorized viewing device; and
in response to detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the authorized viewing device, executing a remedial action;
wherein the communication interface is configured to receive a unique identifier associated with the authorized viewing device.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The client-side digital content delivery device of claim 6, wherein detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the authorized viewing device comprises detecting removal of a wired connection between the client-side computing device and the authorized viewing device.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The client-side digital content delivery device of claim 6, wherein detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the authorized viewing device comprises detecting loss of a wireless connection between the client-side computing device and the authorized viewing device.

### Claim 9 (depends on 6)

The client-side digital content delivery device of claim 6, wherein the remedial action comprises disabling presentation of the digital content on the client-side computing device.

### Claim 10 (depends on 6)

The client-side digital content delivery device of claim 6, wherein the memory stores instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the client-side digital content delivery device to perform operations including determining that the device identifier received from the authorized viewing device matches a recorded device identifier.

### Claim 11

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more computer processors of a client-side digital content delivery device, cause the client-side digital content delivery device to perform operations comprising, at least:
detecting, by a client-side digital content delivery device, that a client-side computing device has been unpaired from an authorized viewing device that is separate from the client-side digital content delivery device, wherein the client-side computing device has been paired to the authorized viewing device, via a communication interface between the client-side computing device and the authorized viewing device to cause digital content received from a remote server to be presented on the authorized viewing device; and
in response to detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the authorized viewing device, executing a remedial action;
wherein the communication interface is configured to receive a unique identifier associated with the authorized viewing device.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11, wherein detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the authorized viewing device comprises detecting removal of a wired connection between the client-side computing device and the authorized viewing device.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11, wherein detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the authorized viewing device comprises detecting loss of a wireless connection between the client-side computing device and the authorized viewing device.

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11, wherein the remedial action comprises disabling presentation of the digital content on the client-side computing device.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11, wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium stores instructions that, when executed by one or more computer processors of a client-side digital content delivery device, cause the client-side digital content delivery device to perform operations comprising determining that the device identifier received from the authorized viewing device matches a recorded device identifier.
