## Abstract

Embodiments of the subject invention comprise a computer based system and methods to collect and compare the attributes of a group of entities using data representing topic data of the entity and interaction data between entities. Embodiments of the invention comprise using minimally invasive means to automatically collect and model both an entity's attributes such as their knowledge/work/interest as well as model the social interactions of the entity together with a means to identify opportunities to influence changes in the entity attributes. Minimally invasive means to collect and model attributes include semantic analysis and topic modeling techniques. Means to model social interactions include social network analysis techniques that can incorporate location data of the entity. Embodiments of the invention further provide a sharable index of the attributes of the entities and the group of entities.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A computer-based method of profiling entity information, the method comprising:
receiving a first attribute of an entity;
determining an entity topic profile of the entity representing the first attribute;
the entity topic profile comprising one or more topics from a global topic model;
receiving a second attribute of the entity;
determining an updated entity topic profile of the entity representing the second attribute;
the updated entity topic profile comprising one or more topics from the global topic model;
recognizing a temporal change of the entity topic profile between the first attribute and the second attribute; and
wherein one or more of the first attribute and the second attribute comprise an interaction information comprising a location information of the entity to a second entity.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the temporal change is an indicator of a trend of a domain knowledge.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the temporal change is an indicator of new domain knowledge.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the temporal change is an indicator for new collaboration potential.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the temporal change is an indicator of a new activity for the entity.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the interaction information further comprises a communication information sent from the entity or received by the entity.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the interaction information further comprises a communication information selected from a group consisting of:
an e-mail;
a text message;
a phones call; and
a web-surfing pattern.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the interaction information further comprises a communication information sent from the entity to the second entity.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the location information comprises a proximity of the entity to the second entity.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the first attribute and the second attribute comprise a domain knowledge determined from the interaction information and the location information comprises a proximity of the entity to the second entity.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the interaction information further comprises a domain knowledge determined from the location information.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the temporal change is determined from a periodic temporal evaluation of the entity topic profile by a collaboration engine.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 wherein the steps of (a) determining an entity topic profile of the entity representing the first attribute and (b) determining an updated entity topic profile of the entity representing the second attribute are determined using topic modeling techniques.

### Claim 14

An entity profiling system configured for profiling entity information, the entity profiling system comprising:
a system bus;
at least one database in communication with the system bus that includes a first attribute of an entity;
a non-transitory computer readable medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein; and
the computer readable program code configured to be executed to implement a computer based method comprising:
receiving the first attribute of the entity,
determining an entity topic profile of the entity representing the first attribute,
the entity topic profile comprising one or more topics from a global topic model,
receiving a second attribute of the entity,
determining an updated entity topic profile of the entity representing the second attribute,
the updated entity topic profile comprising one or more topics from the global topic model,
recognizing a temporal change of the entity topic profile between the first attribute and the second attribute, and
wherein one or more of the first attribute and the second attribute comprise an interaction information comprising a location information of the entity to a second entity.

### Claim 15

An entity profiling system configured for profiling entity information, the entity profiling system comprising:
one or more processors; and
one or more memory elements including instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving a first attribute of an entity;
determining an entity topic profile of the entity representing the first attribute;
the entity topic profile comprising one or more topics from a global topic model;
receiving a second attribute of the entity;
determining an updated entity topic profile of the entity representing the second attribute;
the updated entity topic profile comprising one or more topics from the global topic model;
recognizing a temporal change of the entity topic profile between the first attribute and the second attribute; and
wherein one or more of the first attribute and the second attribute comprise an interaction information comprising a location information of the entity to a second entity.

### Claim 16 (depends on 1)

The computer-based method of claim 1 further comprises defining the global topic model wherein:
the entity topic profile comprises one or more topic from the global topic model; and
the updated entity topic profile comprises one or more topic from the global topic model.

### Claim 17 (depends on 15)

The entity profiling system of claim 15 wherein the one or more processors to perform operations further comprise defining the global topic model wherein:
