## Abstract

An electronic device may include a display and a lens module through which the display is viewable. The lens module may include a tunable lens with an adjustable spherical power, cylindrical axis, and/or cylindrical power. To tune the tunable lens to compensate for a viewer's eyesight, the display may present at least one target. The optical power of the tunable lens may be set based on the point of gaze relative to the at least one target. Multiple targets with associated optical powers may be presented and the optical power of the tunable lens may be set depending on which target is aligned with the point of gaze. The display may present an image through a masking layer with a ring of pinhole pairs. The electronic device may include an input device that receives user input regarding a perceived image associated with the display and the masking layer.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An electronic device, comprising:
a display that is configured to present a target that extends from a first side to a second opposing side, wherein the first side of the target is associated with a first optical power, the second side of the target is associated with a second optical power, and a region of the target between the first and second sides is associated with a continuous range of optical powers between the first and second optical powers;
a gaze detection sensor configured to determine a point of gaze; and
a tunable lens through which the display is viewable, wherein the tunable lens has an optical power that is set based on the point of gaze relative to the target.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the optical power is set based on the point of gaze relative to the first and second sides.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The electronic device defined in claim 2, wherein the optical power is set to a first magnitude when the point of gaze overlaps the first side and wherein the optical power is set to a second magnitude when the point of gaze overlaps the second side.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The electronic device defined in claim 3, wherein the display is further configured to present a description of the first magnitude adjacent to the first side and a description of the second magnitude adjacent to the second side.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The electronic device defined in claim 3, wherein the gaze detection sensor is configured to identify a user selected point along the target.

### Claim 6 (depends on 3)

The electronic device defined in claim 3, further comprising:
an input device that is configured to identify a user selected point along the target.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The electronic device defined in claim 6, wherein the input device comprises a microphone.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

The electronic device defined in claim 6, wherein the input device comprises a touch sensor.

### Claim 9 (depends on 6)

The electronic device defined in claim 6, wherein the input device comprises a button.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the target includes glyphs or stripes.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the optical power is set as a function of the point of gaze within the target.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the display is configured to present background content in addition to the target.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The electronic device defined in claim 12, wherein the background content includes a depth cue.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

The electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the optical power is a spherical power or a cylindrical power.

### Claim 15 (depends on 1)

The electronic device defined in claim 1, wherein the second optical power is different than the first optical power.

### Claim 16

An electronic device, comprising:
a display configured to present an image through a masking layer with a ring of pinhole pairs;
a tunable lens through which the display is viewable; and
an input device configured to receive user input regarding a perceived image associated with the display and the masking layer.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)
