Abstract
A fluid flow control device include a valve body including an inlet, an outlet, and a passageway extending between the inlet and the outlet. A valve trim is at least partially disposed in the passageway of the valve body. The valve trim includes a restrictor having a wall and a plurality of passages extending through the wall. A diffuser is coupled to the restrictor and including a porous body. The porous body is adjacent to the plurality of passages of the restrictor.
Claims18
A valve trim for use in a fluid flow control device, the valve trim comprising:
- a restrictor defined by a first wall and a second wall coupled to the first wall, the first wall spaced radially inward of the second wall;
- a plurality of first flow characterizing passages formed in the restrictor and extending between the first wall and the second wall;
- a diffuser having a porous body coupled to the second wall;
- a plurality of second flow characterizing passages formed in the porous body of the diffuser;
- and
- a plurality of channels formed in the porous body of the diffuser, whereby a fluid flow that exits the restrictor via one of the plurality of first flow characterizing passages has a first portion that flows through and exits the diffuser via a corresponding one of the second flow characterizing passages and a second portion that flows through and exits the diffuser via one or more of the plurality of channels.
A valve trim for use in a fluid flow control device, the valve trim comprising:
- a restrictor defined by a first wall and a second wall coupled to the first wall, the first wall spaced radially inward of the second wall;
- a plurality of first flow characterizing passages formed in the restrictor and extending between the first wall and the second wall;
- a diffuser having a porous body coupled to the second wall;
- a plurality of second flow characterizing passages formed in the porous body of the diffuser;
- and
- a plurality of third flow characterizing passages formed in the porous body of the diffuser, whereby a fluid flow that exits the restrictor via one of the plurality of first flow characterizing passages has a first portion that flows through and exits the diffuser via a corresponding one of the second flow characterizing passages and a second portion that flows through and exits the diffuser via one or more of the plurality of third flow characterizing passages.
A valve trim for use in a fluid flow control device, the valve trim comprising:
- a restrictor defined by a first wall and a second wall coupled to the first wall, the first wall spaced radially inward of the second wall;
- a plurality of first flow characterizing passages formed in the restrictor and extending between the first wall and the second wall;
- a diffuser having a porous body coupled to the second wall;
- a plurality of second flow characterizing passages formed in the porous body of the diffuser;
- and
- a plurality of channels formed in the porous body of the diffuser, each of the channels defining a flow path that fluidly connects one of the first flow characterizing passages with an exit of the diffuser and is fluidly isolated from the plurality of second flow characterizing passages,
- wherein the porous body comprises a lattice structure having a three-dimensional array of connected structural elements that define the plurality of second flow characterizing passages and the plurality of channels.
