## Abstract

A novel maize variety designated 1PDBW79 and seed, plants and plant parts thereof are provided. Methods for producing a maize plant comprise crossing maize variety 1PDBW79 with another maize plant are provided. Methods for producing a maize plant containing in its genetic material one or more traits introgressed into 1PDBW79 through backcross conversion and/or transformation, and to the maize seed, plant and plant part produced thereby are provided. Hybrid maize seed, plants or plant parts are produced by crossing the variety 1PDBW79 or a locus conversion of 1PDBW79 with another maize variety.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A seed, plant, plant part, or plant cell of maize line 1PDBW79, representative seed of the maize line 1PDBW79 having been deposited under NCMA accession number 202207013.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The plant part of claim 1, wherein the plant part is an embryo, ovule or pollen.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

An F1 hybrid maize seed produced by crossing the plant or plant part of claim 1 with a different maize plant.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

An F1 hybrid maize plant or plant part produced by growing the maize seed of claim 3, wherein the plant part comprises at least one F1 hybrid maize plant cell.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising applying plant breeding techniques to the F1 plant or plant part of claim 4 to produce the second maize plant.

### Claim 6 (depends on 4)

A method for producing a second maize plant or plant part, the method comprising doubling haploid seed generated from a cross of the plant or plant part of claim 4 with an inducer variety, thereby producing the second maize plant or plant part.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

A method of producing a modified seed, plant, plant part, or plant cell, the method comprising genome editing the seed, plant, plant part, or plant cell of claim 1, thereby producing the modified seed, plant, plant part, or plant cell.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising applying plant breeding techniques to the plant or plant part of claim 1 to produce the second maize plant.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

A method of producing a modified progeny seed or a modified progeny plant, the method comprising providing the plant or plant part of claim 1 and (a) crossing or selfing the plant or plant part to produce a progeny seed and genome editing the progeny seed, or a progeny plant grown therefrom, to produce a modified progeny seed or a modified progeny plant; or (b) genome editing the plant or plant part to produce a modified plant or a modified seed grown thereon and crossing or selfing the modified plant, or a modified plant grown from the modified seed to produce a modified progeny seed or a modified progeny plant grown therefrom.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the seed, plant, plant part, or plant cell of claim 1.

### Claim 11

A converted seed, plant, plant part or plant cell derived from maize line 1PDBW79, representative seed of the maize line 1PDBW79 having been deposited under NCMA accession number 202207013, wherein the converted seed, plant, plant part or plant cell comprises a locus conversion, and wherein the plant or a plant grown from the converted seed, plant part or plant cell comprises the locus conversion and otherwise comprises all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of maize line 1PDBW79 when grown under the same environmental conditions.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The converted seed, plant, plant part or plant cell of claim 11, wherein the locus conversion confers a property selected from the group consisting of male sterility, a site for site-specific recombination, abiotic stress tolerance, altered phosphate content, altered antioxidant content, altered fatty acid content, altered essential amino acid content, altered carbohydrate content, herbicide tolerance, insect resistance and disease resistance.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

An F1 hybrid maize seed produced by crossing the plant or plant part of claim 11 with a different maize plant.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

An F1 hybrid maize plant or plant part produced by growing the seed of claim 13, wherein the plant part comprises at least one F1 hybrid maize plant cell.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

A method for producing a second maize plant, the method comprising applying plant breeding techniques to the plant or plant part of claim 14 to produce the second maize plant.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

A method of making a commodity plant product comprising silage, starch, fat, syrup or protein, the method comprising producing the commodity plant product from the maize plant or plant part of claim 14.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

A method for producing nucleic acids, the method comprising isolating nucleic acids from the seed, plant, plant part, or plant cell of claim 11.

### Claim 18

An F1 hybrid seed produced by crossing a converted plant or plant part derived from maize line 1PDBW79, representative seed of the line having been deposited under NCMA accession number 202207013 with a different maize plant, wherein the converted plant or plant part comprises a transgene that is inherited by the F1 hybrid seed, wherein the transgene was introduced into a seed, plant, plant part or plant cell of maize line 1PDBW79 by (i) backcrossing to otherwise recover substantially all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of maize line 1PDBW79 or (ii) genetic transformation.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)
