Display assembly with a dot matrix and pictographic elements

A display assembly for a kitchen device, the display assembly including:

• a liquid crystal display panel having:
• a plurality of liquid crystal elements forming a dot matrix display portion;
• and
• a plurality of pictographic elements located adjacent the dot matrix display portion, each pictographic element formed of a single liquid crystal element, wherein the liquid crystal display panel further has a selector element associated with and located adjacent each of the pictographic elements;
• a memory device for storing executable instructions for operating the dot matrix display portion;
• a processor adapted to execute the executable instructions to:
• determine a required output of the dot matrix display portion;
• retrieve a predetermined instruction set from the memory device that corresponds to the required output;
• and
• operate the dot matrix display portion using the predetermined instruction set,
• wherein the predetermined instruction set includes an instruction for each element in the plurality of liquid crystal elements.
