Abstract
A humidification system has a tube configured to transport gases. The tube is configured to be soaked prior to use and has a bead to hold liquid. Heat applied to the bead causes the liquid to be released as vapour. Gases flowing through the tube are heated and humidified by the vapour.
Claims21
An integrated tubular device for delivering humidified gases, the integrated tubular device comprising:
- an elongate tubular body comprising an open proximal end, an open distal end, and a lumen there through;
- a material operably connected to an interior of the lumen and configured to reversibly store a volume of liquid in a liquid form within the material and release the volume of liquid in a vapour form when the material is heated, the material being spirally wound or formed in rings, portions of the elongate tubular body extending radially inward toward a center of the lumen between adjacent turns of the spirally wound or rings of the material, the material contacting an interior surface of the elongate tubular body to provide structural support to the elongate tubular body;
- and
- a heating element in a form of a helix operably connected to the elongate tubular body, the heating element within the material and extending along a length of the spirally wound or rings of the material such that the heating element is surrounded by the material, the heating element configured to heat the material such that the volume of liquid transforms from the liquid form to the vapour form.
