Abstract
An impedance tuning circuit includes a first node and a second node, and an inductance circuit including an inductor and a first switch connected in series such that the inductor is connected to the first node and the first switch is connected to the second node. The inductance circuit further includes a second switch implemented between ground and a third node between the inductor and the first switch, such that the inductance circuit is capable of providing a series inductance path between the first and second nodes or a shunt inductance path between the third node and the ground.

An impedance tuner comprising:
- a signal path provided between a first node and a second node;
- and
- a tuning circuit implemented relative to the signal path, the tuning circuit configured to provide an impedance transformation from a mismatched impedance state at one of multiple impedance zones associated with a constant voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) state to a matched impedance state when a detected impedance is mismatched, the tuning circuit including a switchable inductance such that at least some of the impedance transformations involves or involve use of the switchable inductance.
A method for tuning impedance, the method comprising:
- providing a signal path between a first node and a second node;
- detecting a mismatch in impedance along the signal path;
- and
- providing an impedance transformation from a mismatched impedance state at one of multiple impedance zones associated with a constant voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) state to a matched impedance state when the impedance mismatch is detected, at least some of the impedance transformations including providing a switchable inductance.
A wireless device comprising:
- a radio circuit;
- an antenna;
- and
- an impedance tuner implemented between the radio circuit and the antenna, and including a signal path provided between a first node and a second node, the impedance tuner further including a tuning circuit implemented relative to the signal path, the tuning circuit configured to provide an impedance transformation from a mismatched impedance state at one of multiple impedance zones associated with a constant voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) state to a matched impedance state when a detected impedance is mismatched, the impedance tuner including a switchable inductance such that at least some of the impedance transformations involves or involve use of the switchable inductance.
