Pop-up shelter system and method for vehicles

An apparatus comprising:

• stackable panels comprising an immovable panel and a movable panel, wherein the stackable panels comprise waterproof material;
• at least one hinge connecting the movable panel to the immovable panel, said at least one hinge having a proximal and distal end, wherein the stackable panels are configured to be adjustable between a retracted rectilinear position wherein the stackable panels are disposed above a vehicle roof, and an open position wherein the movable panel extends away from the vehicle roof;
• a support rod detachably attached to the vehicle roof, said support rod connected to the immovable panel;
• and
• a support arm attached to the support rod, wherein the support arm is configured to extend substantially vertically above the immovable panel to connect the movable panel to the support rod.

A method comprising:

• configuring stackable panels comprising an immovable panel and a movable panel, wherein the stackable panels comprise waterproof material;
• connecting at least one hinge between the movable panel and the immovable panel, said at least one hinge having a proximal and distal end;
• detachably attaching a support rod to a vehicle roof, said support rod connected to the immovable panel;
• configuring the stackable panels to be adjustable between a retracted rectilinear position wherein the stackable panels are disposed above the vehicle roof, and an open position wherein the movable panel extends away from the vehicle roof;
• and
• configuring a plurality of support arms to attach to the support rod, wherein each support arm is configured to extend substantially vertically above the immovable panel and connect the movable panel to the support rod.
