Abstract
A machine for forming packing templates includes a infeed mechanism that can feed multiple feeds of sheet material into the machine without repositioning the infeed mechanism or forming creases or bends in the sheet material. The machine also includes a separation and cutting systems with one or more cutting tables and biased knives that cut the sheet material packaging templates. The machine also includes creasing roller(s) that forms creases in the sheet material. The machine also includes a system for reducing or eliminating the impact of irregularities in the sheet material.
Claims18
A cutting unit for cutting sheet material, the cutting unit comprising:
- a cutting table with a first cutting edge;
- a blade with a second cutting edge;
- a first actuator mounted between the cutting table and the blade, the first actuator being configured to move the blade relative to the cutting table in a cutting movement, the first and the second cutting edges lying at an angle so that a contact point can be identified between the first and the second cutting edges during the cutting movement;
- and
- a pressure element provided to exert a force on the blade to increase a pressure between the first cutting edge and the second cutting edge at the position of the contact point.
A method for cutting sheet material with a cutting unit that includes a cutting table with a first cutting edge and a blade with a second cutting edge, the first cutting edge and the second cutting edge lying at an angle, the method comprising:
- moving the blade relative to the cutting table in a generally linear cutting movement by way of a first actuator;
- and
- pressing on the blade by way of a pressure element during the cutting movement in order to increase a pressure between the first cutting edge and the second cutting edge at the position of a contact point.
A system for making box templates, the system comprising
- an infeed system configured to individually advance sheet materials from at least two supplies of sheet material;
- a separation unit configured to cut the sheet materials into desired lengths;
- one or more longitudinal blades that are selectively movable in a transverse direction to be able to make longitudinal cuts at different transverse locations on the sheet materials;
- one or more longitudinal creasing wheels that are selectively movable in a transverse direction to be able to make longitudinal creases at different transverse locations on the sheet materials;
- first and second creasing rollers extending transversely to extend transversely across the sheet materials, the first and second creasing rollers being configured to rotate to form transverse creases in the sheet materials;
- and
- one or more sets of cutting units configured to form transverse cuts in the sheet materials, each set of cutting units comprising a first cutting unit and a second cutting unit, the first and second cutting units being disposed on opposite sides of the sheet material and extending at least partially thereover.
