Power supply device with over-power protection

A power supply for controlling an amount of power delivered by the power supply, the power supply comprising:

• a power converter circuit configured to control a magnitude of an output voltage, and configured to generate a first feedback signal indicative of a magnitude of an input current of the power converter circuit and a second feedback signal indicative of the magnitude of the output voltage;
• an over-power protection circuit configured to receive the first feedback signal indicative of the magnitude of the input current of the power converter circuit, and control the magnitude of the output voltage to be approximately zero volts in response to the magnitude of the input current exceeding a first threshold indicative of an over-power condition;
• and
• a control circuit configured to:
• determine a magnitude of a requested input power of the power supply based on the second feedback signal indicative of the magnitude of the output voltage;
• and
• control the magnitude of the output voltage to be approximately zero volts when the magnitude of the requested input power of the power supply is greater than a second threshold and the magnitude of the input current is less than a third threshold.
