Abstract
A skate blade grinding system used to sharpen and profile the blades of ice skates. The skate blade grinding system can include a housing that includes an elongated slot for receiving the blade of an ice skate for sharpening, and clamp jaws for retaining the skate. The skate blade grinding system can automatically operate a grinding wheel and move the rotating grinding wheel back and forth along the lower face of the skate blade to grind the skate blade.
Claims25
A skate blade grinding system, the system comprising:
- a housing comprising:
- a skate blade clamping mechanism configured to secure a skate blade within a slot in the housing;
- a carriage assembly comprising:
- a carriage;
- a grinding motor;
- a spindle comprising a mounting location, wherein the grinding motor is configured to rotate a grinding component coupled to the mounting location;
- a motor arm having a body with a first end and a second end, the motor arm pivotally coupled to the carriage at the first end, wherein the motor arm is configured to rotate about a pivot axis at the first end, wherein the grinding motor is coupled to the second end of the motor arm and positioned on a first side of the motor arm, wherein the spindle is coupled to the second end of the motor arm and positioned on a second side of the motor arm opposite the first side;
- and
- a rotational stop configured to limit rotational travel about the pivot axis.
A skate blade grinding system, the system comprising:
- a housing comprising:
- a skate blade clamping mechanism configured to secure a skate blade within a slot in the housing;
- a carriage assembly comprising:
- a carriage;
- a grinding motor comprising a motor-driven component, wherein the grinding motor is configured to rotate a grinding component;
- a motor arm having a first end and a second end, the motor arm pivotally coupled to the carriage at the first end, wherein the motor arm is configured to rotate about a pivot axis at the first end, wherein the grinding motor is coupled to the motor arm at the second end;
- a rotational stop configured to limit rotational travel of the motor arm about the pivot axis;
- a biasing mechanism configured to bias the motor arm toward the rotational stop;
- and
- a mechanism configured to adjust the rotational stop.
A skate blade grinding system, the system comprising:
- a housing comprising:
- a skate blade clamping mechanism configured to secure a skate blade within a slot in the housing;
- a carriage assembly comprising:
- a belt-driven carriage;
- a belt grabber securing a belt to the belt-driven carriage;
- at least one pulley;
- a carriage motor configured to translate the belt-driven carriage within the housing;
- a grinding motor comprising a motor-driven component, wherein the grinding motor is configured to rotate a grinding component;
- a motor arm having a first end and a second end, the motor arm pivotally coupled to the carriage at the first end, wherein the motor arm is configured to rotate about a pivot axis at the first end, wherein the grinding motor is coupled to the motor arm at the second end;
- a rotational stop configured to limit rotational travel of the motor arm about the pivot axis;
- a biasing mechanism configured to bias the motor arm toward the rotational stop.
