Provided herein are electrospun or electroblown non-woven fiber membranes, methods of making such membranes and lateral flow diagnostic devices comprising such membranes.

A non-woven fiber membrane comprising nanofibers comprising a polymer blend of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and poly(vinylidene difluoride) (PVDF), having an average fiber diameter from 200 nm to 1000 nm, wherein the membrane has a mean flow pore diameter of greater than about 1 micron to about 5 microns and a porosity of at least 80% and wherein said membrane is located in an assay developing region within a lateral flow diagnostic device.
