Abstract
The present invention provides for a new therapeutic tools capable of treating infectious diseases, in particular, a new pharmaceutical composition comprising an IgM-enriched immunoglobulin preparation for use in the adjunctive treatment of severe Community Acquired Pneumonia (sCAP).
Claims26
A method of prophylaxis for and/or treatment of severe Community Acquired Pneumonia (sCAP) in a patient comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a human plasma-derived IgM-enriched immunoglobulin preparation, said immunoglobulin preparation not having been treated with beta-propiolactone, wherein said patient has a serum IgM level equal to or below an IgM cut-off level, wherein the IgM cut-off level is in the range of 0.4 g/l to 1.5 g/l.
A method of treating severe Community Acquired Pneumonia (sCAP) in a patient, comprising:
- (a) detecting the serum IgM level in a blood sample of the patient, wherein a serum IgM level equal to or below an IgM cut-off level indicates the patient is a patient who may benefit from adjunctive treatment with a human plasma-derived IgM-enriched immunoglobulin preparation, wherein the IgM cut-off level is in the range of 0.4 g/l to 1.5 g/l;
- and
- (b) administering to the patient identified in step (a) a therapeutically effective amount of the human plasma-derived IgM-enriched immunoglobulin preparation, the human plasma-derived IgM-enriched immunoglobulin preparation not having been treated with beta-propiolactone.
