Control device having a secondary radio for waking up a primary radio

An electric load control communication method, comprising:

• at each of a plurality of intervals:
• transitioning a standby control circuit from a standby control circuit SLEEP state to a standby control circuit ACTIVE state;
• and
• causing, by the standby control circuit, a standby radio circuit to transition from a standby radio circuit SLEEP state to a standby radio circuit ACTIVE state, a duration of the standby radio circuit ACTIVE state less than a duration of the standby radio circuit SLEEP state;
• receiving, by the standby control circuit from the standby radio circuit, a received signal strength (RSSI) of a signal received at a first frequency over at least a portion of the standby radio circuit ACTIVE state;
• determining, by the standby control circuit, whether the received RSSI exceeds a defined threshold value;
• and
• responsive to the determination by the standby control circuit that the received RSSI exceeds the defined threshold value:
• causing, by the standby control circuit, a primary control circuit to transition from a primary control circuit SLEEP state to a primary control circuit ACTIVE state;
• and
• responsive to the transition of the primary control circuit from the primary control circuit SLEEP state to the primary control circuit ACTIVE state:
• causing, by the standby control circuit, a transition of the standby radio circuit from the standby radio circuit ACTIVE state to the standby radio circuit SLEEP state;
• and
• transitioning the standby control circuit from the standby control circuit ACTIVE state to the standby control circuit SLEEP state.

A non-transitory, machine-readable, storage device that includes instructions that, when executed by a standby control circuit in an electric load control communication controller, cause the standby control circuit to:

• at each of a plurality of intervals:
• transition from a standby control circuit SLEEP state to a standby control circuit ACTIVE state;
• and
• cause a standby radio circuit to transition from a standby radio circuit SLEEP state to a standby radio circuit ACTIVE state, a duration of the standby radio circuit ACTIVE state less than a duration of the standby radio circuit SLEEP state;
• receive, from the standby radio circuit, a received signal strength (RSSI) of a signal received at a first frequency over at least a portion of the standby radio circuit ACTIVE state;
• determine whether the received RSSI exceeds a defined threshold value;
• and
• responsive to the determination by the standby control circuit that the received RSSI exceeds the defined threshold value:
• cause a primary control circuit to transition from a primary control circuit SLEEP state to a primary control circuit ACTIVE state;
• and
• responsive to the transition of the primary control circuit from the primary control circuit SLEEP state to the primary control circuit ACTIVE state:
• cause a transition of the standby radio circuit from the standby radio circuit ACTIVE state to the standby radio circuit SLEEP state;
• and
• transition from the standby control circuit ACTIVE state to the standby control circuit SLEEP state.
