Creating virtual machine snapshots without interfering with active user sessions

A system comprising:

• one or more processors;
• and
• a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium accessible to the one or more processors;
• wherein
• the non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprises executable instructions which,
• when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
• determine whether a request to create the snapshot of the virtual machine is generated;
• upon a positive determination that a request to create the snapshot of the virtual machine was generated protecting from modification a plurality of virtual memory pages of the virtual machine;
• determine whether an attempt to modify a virtual memory page of the plurality of virtual memory pages is made;
• and
• upon a positive determination that an attempt to modify the virtual memory page of the plurality of virtual memory pages was made executing a process comprising the steps of:
• triggering a virtual machine exit;
• appending the virtual memory page of the plurality of virtual memory pages to a queue of queued virtual memory pages;
• and
• resuming execution of the virtual machine.
