## Abstract

A main mixer for an engine. The main mixer includes a plurality of mixer vanes located circumferentially around a mixer body. Each mixer vane includes a waveform profile. The waveform profile detaches or trips a boundary layer of an air flow across the mixer vane such that the waveform profile introduces turbulence into the air flow.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A main mixer for an engine, the main mixer comprising:
an annular mixer body having a longitudinal centerline;
a plurality of mixer vanes located circumferentially around the annular mixer body, each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes including:
a leading edge;
a trailing edge; and
a plurality of bodies extending, in series, from the leading edge to the trailing edge, each body of the plurality of bodies defining a waveform profile formed by a series of crests and troughs, the crests extending radially outward from the troughs,
wherein an air flow passes over each mixer vane from the leading edge to the trailing edge, and, wherein each of the waveform profiles is configured to detach a boundary layer of the air flow across the respective mixer vane such that the waveform profile introduces turbulence into the air flow.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein the air flow is more turbulent at the trailing edge of each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes than at the leading edge of each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein the waveform profile of each mixer vane is formed on an upper surface of each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes, a lower surface of each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes, or both the upper surface and the lower surface of each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein the waveform profile of each mixer vane is formed by a seal tooth structure, squares, triangles, inverted U-shape, sine wave, cosine wave, or combinations thereof.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, further comprising one or more shaped openings extending through each mixer vane, the one or more shaped openings configured to suction the air flow toward a surface of each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein the boundary layer of the air flow across each mixer vane is configured to detach at each crest of the series of crests and troughs.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein the waveform profile of each mixer vane is aligned such that the series of crests and troughs is normal to the air flow.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein, the plurality of bodies comprises a first body and a second body, and wherein the waveform profile of the first body is parallel with the waveform profile of the second body.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein the waveform profile of each mixer vane extends in a direction parallel with the air flow and in a direction normal to the air flow.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein the plurality of bodies comprises a first body defining the leading edge, a second body defining the trailing edge, and a third body located between the first body and the second body.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein the leading edge includes the waveform profile.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein each body comprises a first body portion defining the troughs and a second body portion defining the crests, wherein the second body portion has a diameter greater than the first body portion.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The main mixer of claim 1, wherein each body of the plurality of bodies is separate and unconnected.

### Claim 14

An engine comprising:
a combustor;
a fuel nozzle configured to provide a fuel flow to the combustor; and
a main mixer having a longitudinal centerline and comprising a plurality of mixer vanes, each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes having:
a leading edge;
a trailing edge; and
a plurality of bodies extending, in series, from the leading edge to the trailing edge, each body of the plurality of bodies defining a waveform profile formed by a series of crests and troughs, the crests extending radially outward from the troughs,
wherein an air flow passes over each mixer vane, and, wherein each of the waveform profiles is configured to detach a boundary layer of the air flow across the respective mixer vane such that the waveform profile introduces turbulence into the air flow, wherein the air flow is configured to mix with the fuel flow.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The engine of claim 14, wherein the air flow is more turbulent at the trailing edge of each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes than at the leading edge of each mixer vane of the plurality of mixer vanes.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)
