## Abstract

A gold(III) complex of formula (I) or formula (II) wherein R1 and R2 are each independently a hydrogen, an optionally substituted alkyl, an optionally substituted cycloalkyl, an optionally substituted arylalkyl, or an optionally substituted aryl; R3 and R4 are each independently a hydrogen, an optionally substituted alkyl, an optionally substituted cycloalkyl, an optionally substituted arylalkyl, an optionally substituted aryl, an optionally substituted heterocyclyl, an optionally substituted alkoxy, a hydroxyl, a halo, a nitro, a cyano, a N-monosubstituted amino group, or a N,N-disubstituted amino group; and X is Cl, Br, or I. A pharmaceutical composition containing the gold(III) complex of formula (I) or (II), and a method of treating cancer are included.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A pharmaceutical composition, comprising:
a primary therapeutic agent, a secondary therapeutic agent and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and/or excipient;
wherein the primary therapeutic agent is a gold(III) complex of formula (I),
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and
wherein the secondary therapeutic agent is one selected from the group consisting of paclitaxel, imatinib, cladribine and daunorubicin;
wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and/or excipient is selected from the group consisting of talc magnesium, calcium stearate, zinc stearate, steric acid, lactose, glucose, sucrose, corn starch, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, ethyl cellulose, cellulose acetate, magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide;
wherein:
R1 and R2 are each independently a hydrogen or an optionally substituted arylalkyl;
R3 and R4 are each independently a hydrogen, an optionally substituted alkoxy, or a hydroxyl; and
X is Cl or Br.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the gold(III) complex of formula (I) R1 and R2 are each independently a C7 to C12 arylalkyl.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the gold(III) complex of formula (I) R1 and R2 are each benzyl.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the gold(III) complex of formula (I) R3 and R4 are each hydrogen.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The pharmaceutical composition of claim 1, wherein the gold(III) complex of formula (I) X is Cl.
