## Abstract

Pyrimido[4,5-b]indole compounds, having the formula: a method of synthesizing said compounds, a pharmaceutical composition comprising said compounds and a suitable carrier, and a method of using the compounds. The pyrimido[4,5-b]indole compounds, identified as CK2 inhibitors, are useful as anticancer and/or antitumor agents, and as agents for treating other kinase-associated conditions including inflammation, pain, and certain immunological disorders, and other types of diseases such as diabetes, viral infection, neurodegenerative diseases. Please replace the originally-filed Specification with the Substitute Specification submitted herewith. Both a “corrected” copy of the Specification and a “clean” copy of the Substitute Specification are attached hereto. No new subject matter has been incorporated herein.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A compound having the formula I:
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof,
wherein:
R is NH-phenyl, wherein the phenyl is substituted with one, two, or three substituents independently selected from the group consisting of Cl, CH(CH3)2, CF3, C(O)N(CH3)2, N(CH3)2, and S(O)2N(CH3)2.

A pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and a therapeutically effective amount of the compound of claim 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
