Abstract
The disclosure provides, inter alia, formulations comprising cerium (III) carbonate, and processes for producing cerium (III) carbonate. In embodiments, the disclosure provides methods for passivating photodegradation of organic compounds using cerium (III) carbonate.

A method of preventing oxidative damage due to ultraviolet radiation exposure, the method comprising topically administering an effective amount of cerium (III) carbonate·xH2O, wherein x is a positive number.
A method of preventing oxidative damage due to ultraviolet radiation exposure, the method comprising topically administering an effective amount of cerium (III) carbonate and zinc oxide.
A method of preventing oxidative damage due to ultraviolet radiation exposure, the method comprising topically administering an effective amount of cerium (III) carbonate, wherein the cerium (III) carbonate is administered as a topical lotion.
