Abstract
Examples of print media cutting procedures and devices are described. The print media is cut with a first cutting module while the print medium is advanced through the device. The print media is then reversed before being cut with a second cutting module. The first cutting module can be moved laterally at the same time as the print medium is moved in the reverse direction.
Claims15
A method comprising:
- moving a leading edge of a print medium in a media advance direction through a first cutter at a first time to form a first cut, the first cut having an end distal to the leading edge of the print medium, being completely through the print medium, and extending in a direction parallel to the media advance direction,
- moving the print medium in a reverse direction at a second time different from the first time, the reverse direction being opposite to the media advance direction so that a second cutter that is stationary during the second time and separate from the first cutter aligns with the first cut at a point on the first cut anywhere from beyond the leading edge of the print medium to the end distal to the leading edge of the print medium, and simultaneously moving the first cutter in a direction transverse to the media advance direction as the print medium is moved in the reverse direction, and
- cutting completely through the print medium with the second cutter that moves at a third time different from the first time and the second time in the direction transverse to the media advance direction to form a second cut in the print medium while the first cutter is stationary, the second cut extending transverse to the first cut, and the second cut intersecting the point of the first cut to separate the print medium into two parts.
A device comprising:
- a traction system to move a print medium having a leading edge in media advance and reverse directions,
- a first cutting module to cut the print medium in a direction parallel to the media advance direction,
- an actuator to move the first cutting module in a direction transverse to the media advance direction,
- a second cutting module to move and cut the print medium in the direction transverse to the media advance direction, and
- a controller to activate both the traction system and the actuator, wherein the controller includes instructions to cut-out a portion of the print medium by carrying out steps including:
- forming a first cut completely through the print medium at a first time with the first cutting module, where the first cut is in the direction parallel to the media advance direction, and where the first cut has an end distal to leading edge of the print medium;
- at a second time different from the first time, moving the print medium in the reverse direction and at the same time moving the first cutting module in the direction transverse to the media advance direction while the second cutting module is stationary;
- and
- at a third time different from the first time and the second time, forming a second cut completely through the print medium with the second cutting module, where the second cut extends transverse to the first cut and intersects the first cut at a point on the first cut beyond the leading edge of the print medium to the end distal to the leading edge of the print medium, and maintaining the first cutting module stationary during the third time.
