## Abstract

Disclosed herein is an aerosol generating substrate comprising an aerosol generating material. The aerosol generating material comprises an amorphous solid. The amorphous solid comprises an active ingredient, wherein at least 70 wt % of the active ingredient aerosolised on heating of the aerosol generating material to 370° C. for a ten-second period under a 1.95 L/min airflow.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An aerosol generating substrate comprising an aerosol generating material, wherein the aerosol generating material comprises an amorphous solid, the amorphous solid comprising an active ingredient, wherein at least about 70 wt % of the active ingredient aerosolised on heating of the aerosol generating material to about 370° C. for a ten-second period under a 1.95 L/min airflow, wherein the amorphous solid comprises less than 20 wt % filler.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, wherein the amorphous solid comprises about 1-3 wt % of an active substance, calculated on a dry weight basis, and wherein at least about 70 wt % of the active substance is aerosolised on heating of the aerosol generating material to about 370° C. for a ten-second period under a 1.95 L/min airflow.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 2, wherein at least about 80 wt % of the active substance is aerosolised on heating of the aerosol generating material to 370° C. for a ten-second period under a 1.95 L/min airflow.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, wherein the amorphous solid comprises up to about 60 wt % of flavorant, calculated on a dry weight basis, and wherein at least about 70 wt % of the flavorant is aerosolised on heating of the aerosol generating material to about 370° C. for a ten-second period under a 1.95 L/min airflow.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 4, wherein at least about 80 wt % of the flavorant is aerosolised on heating of the aerosol generating material to about 370° C. for a ten-second period under a 1.95 L/min airflow.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, wherein the amorphous solid comprises:
about 1-60 wt % of a gelling agent;
about 5-80 wt % of an aerosol generating agent; and
about 10-60 wt % of an active substance;
wherein these weights are calculated on a dry weight basis.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 6, wherein the amorphous solid is a hydrogel and comprises less than about 15 wt % of water calculated on a wet weight basis.

### Claim 8 (depends on 6)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 6, wherein the gelling agent comprises one or more compounds selected from the group comprising alginates, pectins, starches and starch derivatives, celluloses and cellulose derivatives, gums, silica or silicones compounds, clays, polyvinyl alcohol, and combinations thereof.

### Claim 9 (depends on 6)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 6, wherein the aerosol generating agent is selected from erythritol, sorbitol, glycerol, glycols, monohydric alcohols, high boiling point hydrocarbons, lactic acid, diacetin, triacetin, triethylene glycol diacetate, triethyl citrate, ethyl myristate, isopropyl myristate, methyl stearate, dimethyl dodecanedioate, and dimethyl tetradecanedioate.

### Claim 10 (depends on 6)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 6, wherein the tobacco extract is an aqueous extract, obtained by extraction with water.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, wherein the aerosol generating substrate additionally comprises a carrier on which the amorphous solid is provided.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating article comprising an aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

An aerosol generating article according to claim 12, further comprising a heater which is configured to heat but not burn the aerosol generating substrate.

### Claim 14 (depends on 1)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 1, wherein the carrier is formed from materials selected from metal foil, paper, carbon paper, greaseproof paper, ceramic, carbon allotropes such as graphite and graphene, plastic, cardboard, wood or combinations thereof.

### Claim 15 (depends on 11)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 11, wherein the carrier comprises a metal foil.

### Claim 16 (depends on 11)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 11, wherein the carrier comprises a porous layer that abuts the amorphous solid.

### Claim 17 (depends on 11)

An aerosol generating substrate according to claim 11, wherein the carrier comprises a paper-backed foil.

### Claim 18 (depends on 11)
