Abstract
Enablement of a voice channel being established between an IoT device and a controller through the use of a voice-line service system.
Claims22
An apparatus comprising:
- a product including a processing unit, a program and memory for controlling the operation of the product;
- an internet of things (IoT) module that is integrated with the product, wherein the IoT module and the product do not include a cellular transceiver and thus cannot communicate over a mobile telephone cellular network based voice communications channel;
- a unique identifier incorporated into and associated with the IoT module;
- in response to the occurrence of a triggering event, the product equipped with the IoT module being configured to transmit a communication initiation request, wherein the communication initiation request includes the unique identifier;
- and
- in response to transmitting the communication initiation request, the product equipped with the IoT module being configured to receive a connection request for connecting with a third-party device over a mobile telephone cellular network based voice communication channel, wherein the mobile telephone cellular network based communication channel is associated with a particular destination telephone number and is a full-duplex voice channel, whereby the product can receive and transmit voice communications with the third party device.

A method comprising:
- integrating an internet of things (IoT) module into a product, wherein the IoT module and the product do not include a cellular transceiver and thus cannot communicate over a mobile telephone cellular network based voice communications channel, and further wherein the product comprises a processing unit, a program and memory for controlling the operation of the product;
- associating a unique identifier with the IoT module;
- receiving a triggering event;
- transmitting a communication initiation request, wherein the communication initiation request includes the unique identifier;
- and
- in response to transmitting the communication initiation request, the product equipped with the IoT module being connected to a third-party device over a mobile telephone cellular network based voice communication channel, wherein the mobile telephone cellular network based communication channel is associated with a particular destination telephone number and is a full-duplex voice channel, and the method further comprising the product receiving and transmitting voice communications with the third party device.
