A composition comprising a microencapsulated fire extinguishing agent, comprising: a fire extinguishing agent absorbed into a porous matrix; and a coating surrounding said porous matrix and a method for producing such a microencapsulated fire extinguishing agent.

A composition comprising a microencapsulated fire extinguishing agent, comprising:
- a fire extinguishing agent (FEA) absorbed into a porous matrix;
- and
- a coating material surrounding said porous matrix, wherein said coating material is configured to disintegrate at a temperature which is higher than the boiling point of said FEA in said matrix, thereby releasing the FEA in superheated vapor form, wherein said coating material further comprises a heat-accumulating material selected from the group consisting of:
- aluminum powder, aluminum oxide, and combinations thereof.
